We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a £225,000 Major Grant over three years from the Garfield Weston Foundation, a highly respected national foundation in the charitable sector.

This significant funding will support St Petrocs' mission to provide support for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness across Cornwall. The grant follows two consecutive years of funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation. The demand for the work for the charity remains stubbornly high with more people requiring support. Last year, St Petrocs supported 1,402 people.

The three-year grant will contribute directly to St Petrocs’ provision of wraparound services, which include outreach support, emergency and supported accommodation, mental health and addiction counselling, employment and skills support which are all designed to help people find a place to live and move on out of homelessness for good. Last year St Petrocs helped end homelessness for 537 individuals through this work.

The grant award will also enable St Petrocs’ preventative work which first, supports people from being forced into homelessness which helps them stay connected to housing, employment and their wider community. Second, they help people once they have moved on out of homelessness preventing them from becoming homeless again, helping break the cycle of repeat homelessness. Last year, St Petrocs prevented 183 people from becoming homeless in Cornwall.

Charities like St Petrocs are working in an increasingly challenging environment. Demand for their services is rising sharply as the cost-of-living crisis continues to push more people into homelessness. At the same time, the funding landscape has become more challenging, with fewer grants available and greater pressure on voluntary income. As St Petrocs heads toward 40 years of delivering support for people experiencing homelessness in Cornwall, this major grant acts as both a celebration of progress and an investment in the future.

“We are incredibly grateful for this long-term support from such a respected funding partner. To be awarded one of the Garfield Weston Foundation’s Major Grants enables us to continue our work building the solutions to end homelessness in Cornwall, not just for today, but for the long term. We rely on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and funders to keep our doors open and our services running. Every penny truly makes a difference. Now more than ever, we need our community’s support to ensure that no one in Cornwall is left without a place to call home”.

-Henry Meacock, Chief Executive of St Petrocs

“St Petrocs works to support those at risk of homelessness in Cornwall. With their detailed knowledge of the issues facing those who live and work in the Duchy they are seeing more and more people who need their help. The Garfield Weston Foundation is delighted to be able to support this charity over the next three years”.
