Health and wellness

Caring for your health and wellbeing can be difficult when you’re experiencing homelessness. There are a wide variety of services available to anyone who needs them.

Here, you can find out about the Health for Homeless clinics which operate in our resource centres and Freshfields, our counselling and helpline service.

Health for Homeless

It can be difficult for people experiencing homelessness to access the medical care and support. Health for Homeless drop-in clinics take place throughout the week at both our resource centres, in Truro and Penzance.

The clinics provide in-house, on-the-spot primary care and referral facilities, including doctor and prescribing nurse services.

The clinics also provide:

Immunisations

Mental Health

Dental Care

The medical teams liaise with other services as required including: Cornwall Drug and Alcohol Team, With You, Outlook Southwest and Community Mental Health Teams.

Cornwall Health for Homeless is currently being provided by Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust with the aim of bridging the gap between homelessness and health care.

For more information call 01872 221240.

Visit the Health for Homeless website

Freshfield

St Petrocs operates Freshfield, a service which provides advice, information and support to people affected by their own or someone else's drug or alcohol use.

Telephone Helpline

The Freshfield Helpline provides confidential and non-judgemental information, advice and support to people affected by:

  • Drug/alcohol use (including prescribed and over-the-counter drugs)
  • Someone else's drug/alcohol use (families/friends/professionals)

Calls can be 'one-off' or scheduled, and there is no limit to the number of calls that can be made. Our expert can answer a wide range of enquiries related to understanding and managing the impact of drug and/or alcohol use.

For more information and help call 01872 241952.

The helpline is open from Monday to Wednesday between 10:00am-4:00pm.

Counselling service

A bespoke face to face counselling service is also available. Our counsellors are qualified, experienced professionals who help clients to confront or resolve some of the difficulties they experience- especially those that persist in their lives.

Clients for the counselling service can self-refer, be referred by social workers, GPs or other agencies.

For more information and help call 01872 241952

At first, I thought the response to my telephone enquiry was too good to be true. I had been let down and abandoned so many times in the past, but within a couple of weeks I realised that the staff really did care about me. They helped me to achieve huge steps forward and maintain the strength to carry on.
