Thanks to funding from NHS Charities Together, in association with Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, we have been able to provide monthly wellbeing and engagement sessions for our residents and community through our project ‘Building Partnerships of Trust”.

Since the fund has come to an end, we are reflecting on the impact it has had over the last two years. Please watch the video and read below to find out more.

Our project focused on delivering monthly sessions to our residents, who had lived experience of homelessness. The events focused on addressing health problems associated with social isolation and reduced access to health and social care services as a result of homelessness.

Over the course of the two years, we hosted a variety of events which boosted wellbeing, such as Silent Disco Yoga, pumpkin carving and Coast Path Walks. These events brought our community of residents and supporters together, encouraging people to build social connections and improve wellbeing.

Our residents shared how these events have inspired new passions and hobbies. Some are now avid walkers who explore their local area and have taken up photography. We have also discovered that these activities have enabled stronger relationships to be built between our staff and residents, thanks to the informal setting of events enabling people to connect in more relaxed environments.

One of the crucial elements was making the events as regular as possible, encouraging people to join in social activities after moving into our supported accommodation, the experience of which can feel anxiety-inducing and isolating. It has been crucial to ensure that our activities are ever-present for people to take part in at the right time.

Our residents shared:

“It was really nice to meet new, friendly people.”

“If and when I ever get my own place I will have yoga there every day, as its very healing. Thank you”

“It was lovely to explore St Michaels Mount and to have some time away from the house for a change”

“These events are so important. Engaging and mixing different residents and staff members builds trust in one another”

“I enjoyed meeting new people and having a chat. It allowed people to interact with each other.”

“It was good to talk and meet new people, and the games were brilliant. They promoted team building with fun and laughter.”

One staff member shared:

“I brought residents from two different houses, none of them have ever met but they quickly became friends and have since exchanged numbers”
